Presentations That Stick

The Challenge

FROM HIDING BEHIND THEIR SCREENS TO OWNING THE ROOM

A fast-moving PR firm sought to develop their team members' presentation skills, particularly in a hybrid environment. They wanted to support both internally- and externally-facing staff to stop “hiding behind their screens” in order to tell compelling stories and own the room. Experience Institute addressed that need through a 5-part series: Presentations That Stick.

Our Solution

Through a combination of workshops, peer-to-peer coaching, and expert coaching, this series built presentation skills in four main areas:

  • Structure: crafting a strong and convincing narrative through Andy Raskin's 5-part pitch
  • Presence: owning the room through gestures, eyes, tonation, and clarity
  • Connection: engaging the audience and ensuring that the most important parts of the message land with them
  • Magic: infusing the story with the details, drama, and meaning that will make it memorable

Workshop Outcomes

The participating professionals who completed the program saw tremendous gains. They de-cluttered their decks. They shifted from memorizing to communicating freshly in the moment. They felt empowered to pause, step back, and pay attention to the "so what" of their message. Instead of reciting information, they began connecting in a memorable way with their audiences. Best of all, the team members who had felt the most nervous when public speaking started to relax and smile.

“Before, I often ’forgot’ about my audience when presenting and was so focused on me, my delivery and theatre. Now, I'm keeping my audience more in-mind, gauging reactions and identifying opportunities not to just pause, but meaningfully engage.”
