Take Time to Re-Org your Life

Growing up, a “re-org” was not an uncommon happening.

My mom is a self starting entrepreneur who created an award winning hotel, restaurant, and lounge in Fargo, North Dakota. She has no “formal” business training, but she is one of the smartest people I know when it comes to culture, brand, and being better than the competitors at what matters to the customer. I've learned so much from her. I am biased though...

Whenever my mom talked about a re-org at the hotel it meant that it was a time to evolve, shed, and improve upon the weaknesses, but also to grow into the strengths.

The Hotel Donaldson just celebrated 10 years of business and things have never been better. Many would say “keep doing what you're doing”. It is not very often that people want to reevaluate when things are going well.

When listening to my mom tell some friends about what she has been working, on she said, “who wants to be just good?” Taking time to step back and look at things critically can be hard, but there is always room for improvement.

What does reorganizing a hotel have anything to do with your life, you might ask?

Take time to re-org your life. Next time you have a spare minute, instead of picking up your phone, ask yourself these questions to help you reflect.

Re-Org Questions: If life is going well:

How long have you been happy?

Before now, when was the last time you felt this good?

What has changed since then?

Re-Org Questions: If life has got you down:

What would make you jump for joy?

If your stress were balloons which ones would you let go?

Life shouldn’t require a crisis or a tragedy for you to reevaluate. Sometimes the best improvements can come when things are already going well.
