As we begin our first apprenticeships we are often faced with many questions: Where are you going? What are you going to do? What are you going to get out of that experience?

However, there are other meaningful questions that may not be asked often enough. Questions like "How generous are you going to be? What are you going to share?" aren't common.

One of our mantras around Ei is, “Don’t try to be spectacular. Be helpful.” It’s not what you can get, it’s what you can give. We trust that by sharing our personal gifts and talents with our new teams, we will learn great lessons along the way.

The funny thing about generosity is that it’s a paradox — the more you give, the more you get. Generosity defeats the law of conservation of energy. It’s a perpetual motion machine of abundance that only seems to keep growing. When we set out on new adventures only to ask what we’re going to get out of the experience, we are limiting ourselves. Yet, when we come from a place of service we are magnifying our opportunities to learn.

I am still new to mindfully and consciously putting the idea of generosity into practice. As a starting point, I’m planning to celebrate my 25th birthday next week by performing 25 random acts of kindness.
