Last weekend, my partner Katie and I got engaged! But we did it a different way…
A few months ago, I was going to propose. I had everything planned to a T. I even whittled a wooden ring as a placeholder for a more official engagement ring. But during the days leading up to the big event, we both got COVID. I had to cancel everything and start over.
Later, Katie brought up an interesting idea: “Let’s do a co-proposal,” she suggested. “I’ll design half the day, and you design the other half.”
I agreed, we chose a date, and got to planning. To make matters even sweeter, we decided to host a housewarming party for a few friends on the following day. Little did they know they would actually be attending our engagement party!
Last weekend, we pulled it off. The co-proposal was a lovely and quiet day just for us. And the announcement at our housewarming party was received with roaring cheers and applause. It was one of the best weekends of our growing relationship.
There are so many ways to reimagine how things are usually done — in life, in work, and with others.
They’ll take an extra dose of creativity and effort, but it’ll always be worth it.
Is there something you want to try differently? Something you’re doing just because “that’s how it’s always been done?” Big or small, it might be time to start today.
And if you can add a party somewhere in the mix, do it.
